Hi friends, I’m so happy to share a new planner for 2025 – My Intentional Goals Planner. It is a printable goals planner that you can start using anytime and not just at the start of the year. I made this intentional goals planner to help me align my intentions with my goals and actions. If you want to know how to set meaningful goals and be more intentional with your planning, then please keep reading this blog.
Why I made my intentional goals planner
We have made a series of big life decisions this past few months and it was very overwhelming. I knew that my planner system then was no longer working so I went back to the basic of the bullet journal method to help me organize my life. I watched a lot of Ryder Caroll’s videos and that led me rethink the way I plan. I realized that I need to define my intentions to set better goals. I wrote down questions to guide me in setting goals with intention and that’s how I came up with my new intentional goals planner. This has now become my go to planner whenever I start a new project, or make a new plan, or simply to clear my head.
My intentional goals planner is a layout that I made to help me apply my learnings from Ryder’s videos. I highly recommend watching his videos on the Bullet Journal channel on YouTube if you want to learn more about goals and intentions. Please note that I am not a planner guru and I am always in the process of learning so my planner works for my current situation. I hope that my intentional goals planner will also help you define what really matters and set goals that will lead you to a happier and more peaceful life.
How to set better goals using the intentional goals planner
1. Start with a short reflection about yourself and why you want to reset your goals.
The planner starts with an All About Me section. Here I write about what I think of myself and reflect on what is important to me right now. This helps me be clear on the purpose of using the goals planner which is what I write on the How I Want To Use This Planner section. You can do this at the start of the year or anytime you need to rethink your goals.
2. List down your core intentions.
I use the My Intentions page to brainstorm about my larger intentions based on my values or what’s important to me. These intentions will be the basis of my goals and actions. In one of the videos, Ryder suggesting intentions focusing on the present and not on what I want to become in the future. I realized that my past goals have become too materialistic, and sometimes I forget the people who matter the most, including myself.
As an example, my list of intentions includes: Be a better wife / daughter / sister; Be future-ready; Be a good steward of my resources; Take better care of myself. These intentions can help me decide things in the present like choosing an activity for the weekend or adding items to my grocery list. I keep writing whatever intention that comes to mind and then evaluate them later.
3. Set goals that help you live your intentions every day.
Instead of thinking about SMART goals, I think of goals as actions that I can to do so I can be closer to where I want to be. As Ryder Caroll suggested, I try to think of goals as lighthouses that lead me to the right direction instead of being the final destination or target. My goal is now a process and not just a number that I want to reach.
He also mentioned that goals can be like experiments, so try to set a goal to see if it will lead to success. If I am wrong, a failure can be a learning experience to help me set better goals.
Here are the items that I write down in the My Goals page:
My intention. I start by writing one intention. Then I think of goals that will help me live out my intention.
Why do I want to do this? This will clarify my purpose and motivate me to really do it.
What will be the outcome? Define the result or expected outcome by thinking what progress will look like. The outcome will help me know if I am making progress towards my intention or not, and if I should set a different goal.
For example, my intention is to be future-ready. One of my goals is to pay off my loans monthly without incurring more loans. I want to do this to be free of debt eventually so I can add more to my savings. My expected outcome is that my monthly dues will get lower every month until all my loans are paid off.
4. Plan with progress in mind.
In the video, Ryder explains that progress towards where we want to be is also success. I designed the Planning Worksheet to help me think of not just a Plan or actions reach my goal but also a Tracker – way to monitor my progress. In the Moving On section, I write down what I think I should do next when I finally reach my goal.
Using the example above, I plan to make a schedule of payments in advance so I don’t miss a deadline. This can be a checklist that I can tick off whenever I make a payment. To keep track of progress, a list of total payments made every month will show me if the amount is going down or not. And when I finally reach my goal (zero loan payments) then I will rethink my budget and allot more for savings or sinking funds.
